I wrote to Maxim and Alena, my close friends in Ukraine, on June 7, because of the massive Russian missile and drone attacks taking place all over Ukraine, but especially in the capital city, Kyiv, where my friends live. The savagery of these destructive attacks upon Ukrainian civilian targets were in “retaliation” for Ukraine’s successful attack upon Russian military targets and armament related industrial sites – a “retaliation” within a war initiated by Russia without cause, now in its fourth year.
Я написав Максиму та Алені, своїм близьким друзям в Україні, 7 червня через масові російські ракетні та дронові атаки, які відбувалися по всій Україні, але особливо в столиці Києві, де живуть мої друзі. Жорстокість цих руйнівних атак на цивільні об’єкти України була «карантом» за успішну атаку України на російські військові цілі та промислові об’єкти, пов’язані з озброєнням – «карантом» у війні, ініційованій Росією без причини, яка триває вже четвертий рік.
I was deeply concerned because I know of the toll – physically, emotionally, and socially -the continuing war and its violence against the civilian population was having upon my friends, their church members, their apartment neighbors, and those they interact with upon the streets and in the marketplaces.
Я був глибоко стурбований, бо я знаю, яку ціну – фізично, емоційно та соціально – війна і її насилля проти цивільного населення мають на моїх друзів, членів їхніх церков, сусідів по квартирі та тих, з ким вони взаємодіють на вулицях і в ринках.
And it burdens me greatly that with all the US Administration’s induced trouble and chaos within my own country, that many, even among my own family and friends, are so personally mentally and emotionally distracted, that they are truly unaware of what is going on, unaware of the effects of the war upon the Ukrainians, unaware of the US betrayal of Ukraine. And who also, because of the ever-present and expanding daily staple of confusion and deceptions from much of the media, they are no longer able to process the glut of media noise, and who, unfortunately, are now within the ever-increasing world of those who are not able or willing to involve themselves with the reality of the situation of the world through the news – even accurate, true, and honestly empathetic news sources.
І мене дуже тягне, що через всю проблему та хаос, спричинені адміністрацією США в моїй країні, багато хто, навіть серед моєї власної родини та друзів, так особисто ментально та емоційно відволікані, що вони насправді не усвідомлюють, що відбувається, не усвідомлюючи вплив війни на українців, не усвідомлюючи зраду США Україні. І хто також, через постійну і розширюючуся щоденну порцію плутанини та обману від більшості ЗМІ, більше не здатні обробляти потік медійного шуму і хто, на жаль, тепер опинився в постійно зростаючому світі тих, хто не може або не хоче залучати себе до реальності ситуації у світі через новини — навіть точні, правдиві та щиро співчутливі джерела новин.
For many lives within this country are centered more on the entertainment and sports culture of our nation than the news, which honestly does in fact offer an escape of sorts from the troubling realities of our own country, and the wider scope of the economic turmoil and upheavals, expanding threats of violence, wars, and death and destruction, which are the given of everyday life for millions around the world, including my friends in Ukraine.
Адже багато життів у цій країні зосереджені більше на розважальній та спортивній культурі нашої нації, ніж на новинах, які, чесно кажучи, дійсно пропонують свого роду втечу від тривожних реалій нашої країни та ширшої картини економічних негараздів і заворушень, зростаючих загроз насильства, війн, смерті та руйнування, які є нормою повсякденного життя для мільйонів людей по всьому світу, включаючи моїх друзів в Україні.
Then adding to the horrors of our day, there is the October 7 attack on Israel by Hamas terrorists, and the still bleeding memories of those taken hostage from or slaughtered within the Kibbutzim and settlements and towns and a gathering in the open desert near the Gaza border – most just a mile or two from the Gaza border – a few less than a mile – children, parents, babies, brothers and sisters, spouses, cousins, neighbors, grandparents, foreign agricultural workers, and many young people attending a music festival – with the families and friends of the those butchered or taken as hostages, and truly the entire Israeli population, traumatized by their murders or disappearance into Gaza as hostages.

And these horrifying actions are now coupled with the millions of Palestinian men, women, and children in Gaza, now paying a horrible and continuing price for the actions of the Hamas terrorists against Israel, a price paid in the despairing number of civilian deaths, including multiple children, the utter physical destruction of whole sections of Gaza, and the current specter of malnutrition and starvation upon the land.
І ці жахливі дії зараз поєднуються з мільйонами палестинських чоловіків, жінок і дітей у Газі, які зараз платять жахливу і тривалу ціну за дії терористів ХАМАС проти Ізраїлю, ціну, заплачену в відчайдушній кількості загиблих цивільних осіб, у тому числі численних дітей, повному фізичному знищенні цілих частин Гази. і нинішня примара недоїдання і голоду на землі.
There is no end to the nations, peoples, and groups everywhere, suffering harm, evil, and persecutions, with other countries suffering even armed conflict and the inevitable attendant starvation in many places worldwide, such as the Democratic Republic of Congo, Afghanistan, Chad, Sudan, and closer to home, Haiti.

This is why I sent an email to my friends in Kyiv. I am doing what I can. This is why I asked Alena to write. This is why I write. This is why I endeavor to do good, planting seeds of hope, compassion, and kindness which I pray will blossom within others – even if within just a few, within due time.

Our government, our president, makes very light of the missile and drone attacks, all the while still basically laying the blame for the war on Ukraine and continuing to give Russia more time to think about some day stopping the war, while they continue to attack civilian targets, and the president refuses to take action of any significance against Russia.

Things here in the United States continue to deteriorate, federal agents now wear masks when they arrest immigrants, including children in grammar schools.
Ситуація тут, у Сполучених Штатах, продовжує погіршуватися, федеральні агенти тепер носять маски, коли арештовують іммігрантів, включаючи дітей у початкових школах.
In your prayers for the United States, please pray for the Lord‘s mercy and protection upon those most vulnerable to the attacks that our government has put into motion – immigrants, children in general attacking their healthcare systems, education, and continuing to separate families.

The government also continues its attacks on all institutions of higher learning, universities and colleges, and the healthcare and Social Security systems of the general population. I concentrate more in my prayers on the victims of the evil and their suffering.

Many people here have become so distracted with what’s happening here, that they forget about Ukraine, or they believe the narratives of the government, and they also forget the suffering of the millions of Palestinians in Gaza, which has been utterly destroyed.

There was an article in the Los Angeles times, defining the overall policy of the president, and they defined it as “me, myself, and I“ with no focus on the national good of the US or of anybody, but only of himself, and how whatever he does can benefit him politically and financially. He continues to be a cruel and vengeful man consumed only with his own self-interest. Those who serve him are like him.
У Los Angeles Times була стаття, яка визначала загальну політику президента, і вони визначили її як «я, сам і тільки я», без акценту на національні інтереси США або будь-кого іншого, а лише на своїх власних інтересах, і на тому, як все, що він робить, може принести йому політичну та фінансову вигоду. Щодо ракетних атак, то Україну обстрілюють кожну ніч. Особливо Київ. Люди гинуть, будинки горять. Гинуть рятівники і медики, які приїжджають на допомогу. Гинуть діти, а батьки залишаються жити і молять Бога про смерть, бо не можуть і не хочуть жити без своїх дітей, гинуть батьки, а діти залишаються сиротами. Коли гине вся сімʼя, це взагалі неможливо усвідомити..
As for missile attacks, Ukraine is shelled every night. Especially Kyiv. People are dying, houses are burning. Rescuers and doctors who come to the rescue are dying. Children die, but parents stay alive and pray to God for death, because they cannot and do not want to live without their children, parents die, and children remain orphans. When the whole family dies, it is impossible to realize it at all.
Кожну ніч я лягаю спати і усвідомлюю, що можу вже не проснутися. Я багато разів малювала картину у своїй уяві: наш будинок розбитий(22 поверхи)ми на 11 поверсі. Люди розбирають завали, прийшли брати і сестри з церкви допомагати… У наших українських жінок вже є навіть «чорний» гумор на цю тему. Треба одягати гарну піжаму, бо буде соромно, коли тебе відкопають, а ти не в гарній піжамі,або білизні. Це було б смішно, якби не було так сумно…
Every night I go to bed and realize that I may not wake up. I have painted a picture in my imagination many times: our house is broken (22 floors), we are on the 11th floor. People are dismantling the rubble, brothers and sisters from the church have come to help… Our Ukrainian women already have even “black” humor on this topic. You have to wear beautiful pajamas, because it will be a shame when they dig you out, and you are not in beautiful pajamas or underwear. It would be funny if it wasn’t so sad…
На днях прочитала у новинах, що адміністрація Байдена підписали дозвіл на передачу нам 20 000 снарядів для збиття ракет, а Трамп відмінив це рішення і віддав ці снаряди комусь іншому. Мабуть він краще розуміє, бо живучи в Америці набагато краще видніше погано нам чи ні( це мій сарказм такий). Та і в нього зараз набагато більші проблеми: йому треба вигнати з країни маму з онкохворих дитиною і солдата, який все життя присвятив Америці, бо ці люди мігранти і на хворий розсуд Трампа вони незаконно проживали все своє життя в Америці…. Вибачте мене, мої любі американці, але країна в якій ви ЗАРАЗ живете стала небезпечною для вас. У нас, у українців хочаб є видимий ворог, ми знаємо з чим і з ким ми боремося, а вас заставляють боротися зі своїми людьми…. Я раніше мріяла потрапити у Нью Йорк, а тепер не хочу, бо мені страшно.
Recently I read in the news that the Biden administration signed off on allowing us to receive 20,000 shells for shooting down rockets, but Trump overturned that decision and gave those shells to someone else. Apparently, he understands better, as living in America gives him a much clearer view of whether we are doing poorly or not (that’s my sarcasm). Plus, he now has much bigger problems: he needs to deport a mother with a cancer-stricken child and a soldier who dedicated his whole life to America, because these people are migrants and, in Trump’s sick judgment, they have been living here illegally their whole lives… I’m sorry, my dear Americans, but the country you are LIVING in NOW has become dangerous for you. We, Ukrainians, at least have a visible enemy; we know what and who we are fighting against, while you are being forced to fight against your own people… I used to dream of going to New York, but now I don’t want to because it scares me.
Ось якось так коротко і, надіюсь, що зрозуміло, виглядає наше життя тут. Але по милості Божої ми живемо і продовжуємо працювати і служити Йому. Бо Господь-не людина, він не міняє своїх рішень.

The words of Alena are not an easy read, but this is what I asked of her. I also am always amazed at how well informed she is about what is taking place here in the US. For through the remarkably good Ukrainian news services – truly a matter and instrument of survival – she is much better informed than most Americans about the undercurrents of the US relationship with Ukraine, and those of a much different spirit with Russia and the Russian president.
Слова Альони не легкі для сприйняття, але це те, про що я її просив. Я також завжди вражений тим, наскільки добре вона проінформована про те, що відбувається тут, у США. Завдяки неймовірно хорошим українським новинним службам – справді важливій справі та інструменту виживання – вона набагато краще обізнана, ніж більшість американців, про підводні течії відносин США з Україною, і про ті, що мають зовсім інший дух з Росією та російським президентом.
Both relationships are built around the US president’s personal hope for a profitable economic relationship with Russia but are also predicated upon Ukraine’s total capitulation to Russia’s demands which virtually amount to surrender and Russian dominance of what would physically remain of Ukraine. A surrender which would also ensure the suppression of the Ukrainian language and culture, and the loss of the identity of the Ukrainians as a distinct people. These realities both Alena and Maxim understand clearly.
Обидва відносини базуються на особистій надії президента США на вигідні економічні відносини з Росією, але також ґрунтуються на повній капітуляції України перед вимогами Росії, які практично дорівнюють здачі та російській домінації над тим, що фізично залишиться від України. Здача, яка також забезпечить придушення української мови та культури, і втрату ідентичності українців як окремого народу. Ці реалії обидва, Олена та Максим, розуміють чітко.
From Alena’s writings, I also realize how close my heart is to the hearts of my Ukrainian friends, as the events and issues she writes of are also those troubling my own heart. She exhibits strength, clear thinking, and she ends her latest message to me with the words, “But by God’s mercy, we live and continue to work and serve Him.” Yes.
З writings Alena я також усвідомлюю, як близьке моє серце до сердець моїх українських друзів, оскільки події та питання, про які вона пише, також турбують моє власне серце. Вона демонструє силу, чітке мислення, і завершує своє останнє повідомлення мені словами: “Але з Божої милості, ми живемо і продовжуємо працювати і служити Йому.” Так.
One thing she specifically mentioned was the diversion of promised military aid in shooting down Russian rockets diverted elsewhere – just another action illustrating the betrayal – literally a stab in the back – by the current US administration. Below is a statement put out by the US State Department on June 12, congratulating Russia on Russia day.

It is shocking to read the statement. For the US president has never authorized such a warm, affirming, and generous statement to be issued to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. No, and what I remember most is the president’s and vice-president’s shameful ambush and rant towards Ukraine’s President Zelensky when he visited the White House to discuss security guarantees which he did not receive before he was thrown out of the White House. Шокуюче читати цю заяву. Адже президент США ніколи не уповноважував видавати таку теплу, підтверджувальну та щедру заяву на адресу України та українського народу. Ні, і що я найбільше пам’ятаю, так це ганебну засідку та крики президента і віцепрезидента на адресу президента України Зеленського під час його візиту до Білого дому для обговорення гарантій безпеки, які він не отримав, перш ніж його вигнали з Білого дому. It is a statement dripping of US financial self-interest and a total disregard for Ukraine, and the blood shed by the Ukrainians in defense of their country, culture, language, and freedom.

I am a writer, and I had to pray and search my heart and soul as to how to truly express my deep inner revulsion of this Judas speech, of this statement of warm greetings towards Russia and its UN designated war-criminal president. For between the lines of praise for President Putin and the silence about Ukraine’s necessary war efforts and the amount of Ukrainian blood shed in defense of their homeland, are words and sentences of an attitude and policy saturated with resentment and distain towards Ukraine for interfering in the US and Russian negotiations aiming towards the surrender and dismemberment of Ukraine – to which Ukraine will never agree to or willingly participate in. A statement of greeting to the Russian war criminal president spoken with a smiling backstabbing sugar coated animosity and contempt towards Ukraine and the Ukrainians.
Я письменник, і мені довелося молитися і досліджувати своє серце і душу, щоб зрозуміти, як насправді висловити свою глибоку внутрішню огиду до цієї промови Юди, до цієї заяви теплих привітань на адресу Росії та її президента, призначеного воєнним злочинцем ООН. Адже між рядками похвали президенту Путіну та мовчанням про необхідні військові зусилля України та кількість української крові, пролитої на захист своєї батьківщини, лежать слова та речення ставлення та політики, просякнуті образою та зневагою до України за втручання у переговори США та Росії, спрямовані на капітуляцію та розчленування України, на які Україна ніколи не погодиться або добровільно візьме участь. Perhaps it is the smiles – coupled with the perverse mouth and burning lips (Proverbs 6:12-19, Proverbs 26:23-28 ) and lies – that are the worst and most vile expressions of this evil self-centered hypocrisy – which lays at the heart of its consuming revulsion within me.

U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio congratulated citizens of Russia, the aggressor state, on Russia Day, while emphasizing Washington’s desire to build constructive relations with Moscow to help achieve peace in Ukraine.

The greeting was published June 12 on the U.S. State Department’s website.
