Second Granddaughter – 09/20/20
…so here she was, now fourteen, all dressed up, ready for the party, her party, of course, not really the one she wanted, but nevertheless, the one she was going to, all arranged in her honor, or so they said… She straightened her dress, smoothing the white almost silver material. Now, the dress was…maybe the best thing about the party, for she was allowed to choose the dress for this a special occasion…within some limits that is true…but limits she was able to bend and push back and break out of to choose something she really wanted… She smiled…now that was the best thing about the dress…about the party… She turned and looked into the mirror and…her dress, her shoes, her stockings, made it look, appear, as if she had risen up from the carpet, from all those things around her that were not her, but the wall behind her made her stand out…as if she was a real person…and that is what she wanted for her fourteenth birthday, to be a real person, to be who she was, not made by others.
