Youngest Daughter – 10/22/20
…and she stopped, she just stopped, uncharacteristically not heeding where she was on the sidewalk, or how many around her, or even thinking of how she should maintain her chic, stylish, no-nonsense, forward-moving, super-professional stance and persona…for hers were more the sleek stilettos upon the pavements of Lexington or Fifth Avenues, also enjoying the resounding clicks and louder taps of her shoes as she moved across marble floors…she smiled… pseudo-marble lobbies, just part of the…illusion…her smile faded…illusions, mirrors, reflections upon windows, stunning views of the skyline from the windows, from the windows of the office suite…though always a thought when looking out, after all these years, of Enrique down the street and his large family, not poor, but not always having enough, beautiful hair and lips…thoughts of justice for them…and she smiled…now Enrique would laugh, so naturally, if he could see her looking at these shoes, fun shoes he would say, bright-color shoes, like her, when he would look into her…beautiful his eyes…and, well where would she wear these shoes, to a party perhaps, to raise eyebrows, to elicit a comment or two…and she would say…she didn’t know…and the shoes so expensive, wow…but now just a trifle, for what she didn’t need…oh, she didn’t know…no, they were shoes she needed…to wear, to dance in, to remind her of a time when the first boy she kissed would have loved these shoes because, yes, he loved her…
