Youngest Daughter – 10/13/20
...she always loved this photo, first really seeing it as she reached for it, holding on to the fancy end table in her grandparents’ house with one hand, the nearest photo to her, the one closest, then just out of reach of her little hand, but forever then, her favorite photo of all the photos on the little table, even more than her own mother’s high school graduation photo – always keeping to herself that even as loving and wonderful as she was as a mother, she really took after her father, grandpa she always called him, for her grandmother, Edith, as she sometimes called her and always thought of her, not grandma, as her sister and cousins called her, for Edith was pretty, even beautiful and stunning, fun, and alive and even though Edith loved her husband, Ralph – goodness, what can you do with the name like that! – she often wondered what she first saw in him besides being a fancy, snazzy, dresser…hmm, yes, her own mom was more like her father…but she was always in awe of Edith and Edith seemed to especially love her and always took her in her arms – her perfume heavenly – and she would take this photo and tell her all about it, and that’s why she was taking it with her…for Edith died last week.
