Second Grandson – 08/09/14
…and when the boy opened the box, he just stared at the creature inside and then with wide-eyes, he looked up at his papa and said, “Thank you, papa, for whatever this is, but I really wanted a bunny.” “What?” his papa said, “Bunny? I thought you said you wanted a funny animal.” “Funny?” the boy said, “Does he do tricks?” “Tricks?” his papa said, “I don’t think hedgehogs do tricks. And it’s a she. Her name is Sylvia.” “Well,” the boy said, “how is she funny?” “Funny?” the man said now a little confused, “She’s funny because she eats bugs and things on the ground and as a pet you can’t hug or kiss her because she has pricklies all over her body.” “Papa,” the boy said, “that’s not funny, that’s sad.” “Sad?” the old man said, “Well not really, she will know you love her if you feed her and let her loose in the garden for a while everyday.” “But I can’t take her to bed with me.” “No, don’t do that.”
